Dear Carrie,

Herbert R. Asdell is the second child of George Washington Asdell and Rebecca Souders of Calcutta, Columbiana Co. OH. George Washington Asdell was the seventh child of James L. Asdell who emmigrated from Ireland to St. Claire Twp., Columbiana Co. OH in the early 19th century. He married Sarah L. Crawford in Ohio. Their first child, Samuel, was born in 1825.

Herbert R. and Laura Asdell came to CA sometime after the birth of their daughter Cora Elizabeth in 1897 and the 1900 Census. Of the three children listed: (1) Raymond died in 1976 at North Powder, OR; (2) Earl died in 1958 at Sonoma Co. CA; and (3) Cora Elizabeth died in 1978 at San Rafael, CA. I do not know whether Raymond or Earl married but Cora married Caleb G. Cullen inn 1922 and had one daughter, Cora Grace in 1927. Cora Grace married William Lohse in 1953 and they had one daughter, Lydia, in 1957. The last three people are assumed to be living somewhere in CA today.

I suggest that you get in touch with Laura Moff Goist, who appears elsewhere on this message board, for information on the Asdell clan.

Jim McElroy
