Henry Ashcroft married Mary Graterix at Manchester Cathedral, Lancashire on 12th October 1779. Mary’s parents were Matthew Graterix and Jane Jolley who were married at Manchester Cathedral on 15th July 1760 and were resident at Salford at the time. Jane probably came from Blackrod, Lancashire and was christened by her father Edward Jolley on 22nd June 1740.
Henry Ashcroft probably died around 1800 as a widow, Mary, was found in an 1804 directory living in Salford. They probably had a son Joshua Ashcroft, a slater, who married Esther Harrison at Manchester Cathedral on 19th May 1802. William Harrison, a weaver, was the father of an Esther baptised at Mossley, Manchester on 11th April 1784. William was probably the son of James Harrison and Betty and was christened in May 1749 at Ashton and married Sarah Slater at Ashton-under-Lyne on 6th June 1773.
Joshua and Esther Ashcroft baptised their first son, William Ashcroft, at Manchester Cathedral on 24th June 1804. William perhaps never married his partner Hannah Smith, who was born in Meifod, Wales in about 1798, as there appears to be no record of a marriage. Their first child was John, a bastard, born at Disley near Stockport on 5th October 1825. The fifth child, Joshua Ashcroft, was baptised at St. Bartholomew, Wednesbury, Staffordshire on 3rd March 1833.
Joshua Ashcroft married Prudence Beardmore on 3rd November 1860 at Wolverhampton, Staffordshire. Joshua and Prudence migrated to Australia on board the “Montmorency”, which arrived in Moreton Bay on 28th December 1861.
