Sallie DeWitt Ashe b. 1874 m. Carlos Fitch
Samuel Swann Ashe 1839-1919, Confederate army officer and civil servant was b. in Brownsville, Tn, son of John B. & Elizabeth Hay Ashe. John B. was member of U.S. House of Representatives. His grandfather Samuel had been governor of N.C. and was the man the city of Asheville was named.
Samuel Swann Ashe moved to Harris Co. Tx. With the outbreak of the war he joined the Texas Rangers. He took part in the battle of Shiloh where his brother William was killed.
On May 23, 1866 he married Sallie Anderson of Lebanon, Tn. They had John B. Ashe 1867-1950 who m. Virginia Wilson and
Sallie DeWitt Ashe b. 1867 who m. Carlos Fitch -1942. The other four children did not live to maturity.
