I am descended from Elizabeth Ashman, born Kilmersdon 1793 (daughter of William Ashman who married a Mary Ashman). Ashman is a very common name in the Kilmersdon/Coleford area. There are 124 marriage entries alone in the Kilmersdon parish for the period 1725 - 1836 (all of which I have transcribed). I am not able to take my Ashman line further back because there are so many. I have similar trouble with my Moore line - also another very common name in this area. Elizabeth Ashman married William Moore (born Kilmersdon 1794)in 1818 and then moved to Bath. The main occupation in this area in the early 19th century seems to have been coalmining.
