I came across a few names and dates that may help others..The information is from Ron Gosney's book called the "Sailing ships and Mariners of Knottingley".It has excellent information on families associated with shipping etc...A Richard Askam (Knottingley) owned a ship "Argosy" built in 1814.James Askam (Knottingley) owned a ship "Goodwill" built 1821. William Askam born 1827 was a Mariner in 1869.John Askam born 1827 also a Mariner in the same year. A John Askam age 30 was a Mate on the sloop "Edward and Mary" in 1839. John Askam was partowner of a ship the "Two Emmas" in 1858. Knottingley is near Pontefract,Ferrybridge and not far from Campsall & Wakefield..Genuki is a useful site to find Parish information and Trade Directories. One of the local churches at Knottingley was St Botolphs and All Saints was at Pontefract.Good luck researching.Sue
