Charles Ward's father, Partrick was born in Carrick Upper, Parish of Glencolumbkille, Co. Donegal, Ireland. Patrick Ward's parents were Donal Ward of Carrick Upper and Mary McShane of the townland of Bogagh in the Parish of Kilcar, Co. Donegal, Ireland.

Mary Askin was likely born in the townland of Towney in the Parish of Kilcar, Co. Donegal, Ireland. Her parents were Patrick Arskin and Mary ?. They are listed in the 1870 census of Belvidere, IL. Sister Katie is listed in St. Cartha Church, Kilcar, Co. Donegal Baptismal record as being Baptised 23 Oct 1849.
