Coming to the United States in 1867 with a brother soon after the death of his parents, he first lived in the state of Illinois, where he worked as a farm hand. He soon moved to Missouri, where he became a railroad contractor, remaining there until 1882, when he moved to Washington territory and coming to Cheney, where he took up a homestead and where he resided until his deathl He was married to Miss Chrstenia Holm in 1882. Five children were born to them, John H., Ella May and Jennie C., and a son and daughter who died in infancy. The funeral was held fro the homestead on Tuesday afternoon and was conducted by Rev. F. O. Wyatt. Interment was at Fairview cemetery.
