Hi, Tambra,
I realize it's been a long time since you posted you information, but I just happened to come across it looking for some information about my dad's family. He often referred to someone they called "Grossmama" and said her name was "Mina" and she was married to "Fred" (Assel) and they emigrated to America from Hesse-Kassel Darmstadt. He also said "Mina" was a countess, or "graff" (or whatever they call such people in Germany!,) that she was related to the von Falkenburgs and that her family disowned her because Fred was a shepherd. Who knows? It's a cool story, anyhow. I remember seeing a picture supposedly of this couple when I wasvery little girl, and the story could be true, given the people in it. She was tiny and very plain. He was very handsome. Hmm.
There were a couple of other interesting things in your post that caught my eye as well. For one thing, you list all of my father's brothers and sister (George, Bill, Mabel) but don't mention my Dad. He was Charles Wilson Assel, b. April 4, 1921 d. 1991 in Downingtown, PA. He married Bernice Alice Homan 9/12/1942? in the Methodist Church in Mt. Washington. They had one daughter, Deborah (Debbie), and that's me. I married Russell Hamilton of Philadelphia in 1979 and have two children who would be direct Assel descendants, Russell C. (Rusty) and Caitlin. I do vaguely remember an"Aunt Lizzy" and a woman whose name was Mildred Ceminar, but everyone called her "Dolly." I have information on my Aunt Mabel's family as well, if you're interested. BTW, it's my understanding that Eva Thompson was actually Eva Mae Thompson Jones (took stepfather's name???) We moved from Pgh. in 1961, and I still miss it!
Anyway, I hope this reaches you. I really enjoyed reading your post & would love to hear back from you some time.
Debbie Hamilton
