Noting your specialist knowledge on Atherton's I thought I might ask if this fragment fits in anywhere.
My great great grandfather William Wright married Margaret Atherton, daughter of James Atherton, a labourer of Winwick Street, Warrington (now under Warrington shopping centre). William at the time was living at Bank Street, I think next street parallel, and was a railway stoker. They were married at St Paul's Church, witnesses Peter and Elizabeth Lamb. They subsequently moved to Marshall's Cross, Sutton where William was an engine driver. Margaret died 29th May 1865 at Moor Lane, Widnes, after having five children.
I realise there are loads of Athertons, but up until now I have not found roots for James Atherton.I thought possibly you might have enough connections to identify.
