I have a copy of an old letter dated May 16th 1831 which makes brief reference to ANDREW AITKIN. It states:

"Andrew Aitkin that was with Hogg the Poet" (i.e., James Hogg, the Ettrick Shepherd)" lives about a mile and a half from us."

The letter writer, Andrew Laidlaw, was settled on land in Esquesing Township, Halton County, Ontario (then known as Upper Canada), West of Toronto, about where the city of Bramalea is. Andrew Aitkin would have come in the 1820s or 1830-31.
