I have a Drouin collection 1936 marriage record showing Dominique Bernard marrying Catherine Bernard in Lotbiniere. Presumably Dominique is J-B's father, and my great-grandfather. I had a friend translate it, and he said that Dominique and Catherine were cousins, and Bishop Joseph Signay approved the marriage. Dominique's first wife was an Auger, as was Catherine's mother. I guess that Lotbiniere must be the 'West Virginia' of Canada!
