I am not related to Anna Ault and Leonard Caplinger, but I have done some research to try and determine what Alt/Aults Anna might be related to. I couldn't connect her to the Alt families in Hardy Co., VA/WV, although I believe there must be a connection. I have proved through research that Michael and probably Henry Alt came from Maryland to Hardy Co. VA before 1790. Anna's birthplace on the 1850 and 1860 census records give her place of birth as Maryland and age as born about 1775. I discount the theory of Anna being born in Berks Co. PA, the daughter of Michael Ault. Leonard Caplinger and his parents did not leave Virginia for Tennessee until around 1798, when they sold their property. They are on the Hampshire/Hardy Co. VA Tax lists form 1782-1798. Leonard first appears on a Hardy Co. VA tax list in 1794 and I believe they must have been married in Hardy Co. VA. It doesn't seem likely to me if he went to Tennessee or Pennsylvania to marry her, that they would then come all the way back to Virginia.
