Dear Trevor

I am about a month ahead of you and by coincidence we too live in North Yorkshire. My mother's family goes back to to Henry Ault/Martha Titterton from Doveridge, Derbyshire.

I suggest that you start searching at

You will find literally hundreds of Aults from the same source mainly thanks to the contribution of Susan Gilbert from Utah.

An uncle of mine started out on this trail some 20 years ago and got some basic details on the direct family tree from visiting the Matlock Record Office and the Church at Doveridge but the above mentioned web source goes a lot further. I have added about 150 additional relations over the past 2 weeks from this source.

I am hoping to be able to make some contributions to the above mentioned site shortly as I now realise that I have additional or more accurate information on some of the post 1850's entries.

The family appeared to have stayed close to Doveridge for many years but the need for work was the probable reason for moving on to industrial places and in certain cases to migrating. My uncle established that a foot and mouth epidemic in the 1850's bankrupted some of the family and the major movements to Stoke, Derby, Wallasey, London,USA, etc occur after this.

Hope this helps

Trevor Owen
