Hello, While stationed in the Washington D.C. Area, I did
some research on the Downs and Ault Families of Loudoun
County. Stephen D. Downs and Mary Ann (Ault) Downs were
my gg-grandparents. During my research, I do not recall
seeing any reference to a Mariah Elizabeth Ault but then
I didn't get to see all the records I wanted to see: - -
something about re-assignment orders. In my files, I do have the following which I hope you find helpful:
John Compher married Elizabeth Ault - date of bond:
April 25, 1808. (Loudoun County, Virginia Marriage Records
to 1881, by Aurelia M. Jewell, page 55) On 13 April 1793,
Charles Earl of Tankerville and Henry Astley Bennett both
of Great Britain sold to William Ault of Loudoun Co. 97
acres of land in Catoctin. In March, 1815, Wilhelm (William) Alt was buried leaving a widow, Rachel. In 1823,
the landed estate of William Alt (deceased) was divided
into five lots: Lot 1 to William Alt (1784-1853), lot 2
to Elizabeth Compher late Elizabeth Alt, Lot 3 to Rachel
Alt widow of William Alt, Lot 4 to Rachel Spring late
Rachel Alt, and Lot 5 to John Alt; being the same land
which William Alt deceased purchased in April 1793. That same court action, identifies Rachel Alt as the widow and
relict of William Alt, deceased, and "Elizabeth Compher wife
of John Compher, William Alt, John Alt, and Rachel Spring
wife of Michael Spring" as children of William Alt, dec'd.
I hope this is the proof you need to tie Elizabeth Compher in with the Alt Family from Maryland.
