If I remember correctly, the birth records start in 1852 for Virginia. My researcher friend was from Grant Co. WV and she went to the county court houses and copied the Alt/Ault birth records. I think they are kind of spotty for the early years. You should be able to find the birth and death records on microfilm, which can be ordered
through a Family History Library (LDS), to be viewed on a reader.
