Saw your note on Genforum. We may be related, but I can't be sure without additional information. I tried to e-mal you but the message “bounced”.
My immigrant ancestor was Valentin Alt (note spelling). He came to Philadelphia in 1738, on the ship Davey. He was a Palatinate, according to an article in the Philadelphia newspaper at the time. He had two sons with him, Adam and Jacob, no wife, and no relatives. The family has been extensively research through the first four generations of Valentin's descendants. The principal researchers were Nellie Wallace Reeser, Alden J. Ault, and Bill Kincaid. Many family members contributed to Bill's research. Copies of their books are available from the Family History Center (LDS Church). No ancestors for Valentin have been documented to date that I am aware of. Valentin's descendants went to Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and then scattered after crossing the Mississippi River.
So far, I have identified only one family in Miami County who is related to Valentin. Daniel Webster Ault, born 1835 in Belmont County, headed that family. I have very little verified information on Daniel, though he is included, with his two wives, in Bill Kincaid’s book. Also included in Bill’s book are the parents, John and Elizabeth Ault, and Daniel’s siblings. The 1860 census shows Daniel, with brothers Phillip and John, in Violet Twp., Fairfield County. Daniel is married to Grace Pickering about 1866 in Fairfield County. The 1870 census shows the family in Fairfield County, with children Samuel P. and Hannah. The 1880 census shows Daniel, now a widower, in Shelby County, with children Samuel P., Hannah, and Herbert B. (hard to read). The 1900 census shows Daniel in Piqua with a second wife, Cyadell (Della) Jean Count whom he married July 3, 1881 in Shelby County. There are four children, Mamie, Gertie, Clyde and Jennings. The 1910 census is similar to the 1900 census, showing the children as Gertrude M., Clyde W., and Jennings B. The 1900 and 1910 census’, for Miami County, also show many other Ault families, all related to Daniel I believe, but I have not researched enough to fully verify such.
If this sounds like your family we can exchange information.
