I am NOT an Austin but I lived in Nixon, TX,(1931-35)when a small lad and have many fond memories including of the Austin family. The summer of 1935 I went to the 100th birthday party anniversary for a Mr. Austin who was visiting from his home in Old Mexico. He was either the father or grandfather of Mrs. Weber and her sister.I do not recall their names but the sister was an employee of the Nixon bank when I visited many years later. They were both Austins before marriage.
I recall as if yesterday that old man Austin was agile and amazing for his 100 years and invited my Dad (the Weber's minister) to a contest to see who could eat the most ice cream.I recall asking my Dad if he was related to Texas's Stephen F. Austin. He may have replied that he was somewhat related. It is amazing to me NOW that I had known a person who was born in 1835.
