Hi John,
received no reply to previous message. Further info; of the 9 children of John & Isabella's you have mentioned, (not including Eliza Ann, who, according to documentation I have, was born between Alfred Augustus & John, i.e. 1841-42, ten in total)-seven were still alive in 1866. Deceased were Alfred Augustus, William Matthew & Matilda Agnes. Have exact b/days for some of John & Isabella's children if requested.

Isabella Wood nee McIntosh Tough died in Ballarat East in 1866, age 45, survived by 6 girls & 1 boy, ie. son John. (Am curious as to where, or what doc. the 'Taylor' you list John as John Taylor Wood has been found?)
From memory - Mrs.Eliza Anne Lang,nee Wood, Isabella's daughter, has signed her mother's death cert, mother's maiden name stated as McIntosh, which led to some initial confusion in research without the Tough.)

Years ago, while researching 'Lang' (my great grandmother who was Eliza's daughter) I stumbled upon Isabella Wood nee McIntosh Tough. The name Wood was very difficult to research much further.

Eliza buried her husband John Lang (born Germany d.1882, Victoria St.Ballarat) with her mother Isabella Wood (buried 5th Sept, 1866), ie. his mother-in-law Isabella Wood nee McIntosh/Tough;
Also buried with them in the same plot, 'old'Ballarat cemetery, is an 8 week old child (d.August 1893)Leopold S. Robbins. I found that Leopold was the 2nd born (? - from Vic. Pioneers Index)child to Lillias Cecilia Donaldson Wood & Samuel John Robbins. (Their first(?in Victoria) being Albert Fred George Robbins b.1883.) Lillias C.D.Wood was the last born child, 1861, to John & Isabella Wood.

Would be happy to hear from any descendants, as I have other info going back to @ 1750's, then Tasmania & other.

Am curious as to how the Gray was found in John Gray Wood, or it's origins. Of course the name Wood was extremely difficult (nebulous) to research, so I pretty well gave up! I guess any info might help.

I understand through past research, some associated names I found in the lines down from John & Isabella to 1940+? are/in random order: Lang, Main, Fairrish (?Farris), Abbott?, Gibson, Wade, Boynton, Rogers, Dethridge, Donovan, Clifford/Clifton.
Prior to John & Isabella assoc. names I came across in research were Donaldson,Coventry,Curror, now add Gray and Taylor? Several of these names have been included in double surnames, so the links were not clear on all. Some family appear to have gone to West Aust. 1890's goldrush.

Isabella (listed as Tough) arrived in Australia in 1836. Isabella was baptised as Isabella McIntosh Tough. John & Isabella's address is listed as 'Brickfields', Geelong in March, 1847.
According to the Tasmanian Archives John Wood (occupation 'brickmaker';) had not been a convict, they years later said they couldn't rule it out - so who knows!

Hope some of this helps...
dianne
