Thanks Gordon for the extra information.

The puzzle is WHY the SURNAME CHANGE.

John Vincent Barry m. 14 Oct 1891 in Hobart, Tasmania to Amy Beard the d/o George Frederick Beard & Laura Isabella Wills Old. (Sometime befor 1914 both John & Amy Barry change their surname to Byrne; John changing his name to David Vincent Byrne)
1914 Electoral Roll - Clements St, Wangaratta, Vic; David Byrne, Labourer; Amy Byrne, home duties
1937 & 1942 Electoral Roll - Clements St, Wangaratta, Vic; David Vincent Byrne, Labourer; Amy Byrne, home duties; David Frederick Lawrence Byrne, Labourer

Children:
1.Cecil Vincent Barry b.3 Jun 1893 Hobart, Tas (changes his name to Byrne)
1914 Electoral Roll - 341 Glenlyon Rd, East Brunswick, Bourke, Vic; Cecil Vincent Byrne, driver
2.Doris Hazel Mary Barry b.2 Oct 1895 Hobart, Tas, (marries twice in Sydney and emigrates to CA,USA with 2nd husband)
3.Daisy Winifred Laura Barry b.29 Nov 1896 Hobart, Tas (Can't find trace of yet)
4.Catherine Eileen Lily Barry b.9 Aug 1898 Hobart, Tas (d.29 Dec 1966 Darlinghurst, Sydney, NSW - Spinster)
5.Veronica Muriel Pretoria Barry b.8 Jun 1900 Hobart, Tas ( m.? Ferguson) d.3 Sep 1965 Pyrmont, Sydney, NSW
6.Unknown triplet (lived a few hours) b. 6 Apr 1904 Zeehan, Tas d.6 Apr 1904 Zeehan, Tas
7.Annie Jane Barry b.6 Apr 1904 d.20 Jul 1904 Zeehan, Tas
8.John Laurence Barry b.6 Apr 1904 Zeehan, Tas d. 1904 Zeehan, Tas

Found this on Trove: Zeehan and Dundas Herald (Tas. : 1890 - 1922) -14 May 1904
At the Police Court yesterday, before Messrs L. E. Chambers, P.M , and G. P. Sinclair, J.P., Albert Eady, aged 12, and Cecil Barry, aged 10, pleaded guilty to having stolen 14s 6d from the hut of Albert Clarke on April 14 last......On April 6 tbe mother gave birth to triplets and the robbery took place on the 14th. It was evident that she could not look after him at that time. ......They would not be sent to gaol, but they would have to go to a place where they would be taught a trade and to be honest in the future. They would each be sent to the Training School for a period of four years.

Is the name change because Cecil Barry stole some money and the family left Tasmania and moved to Victoria before Cecil served his time at the Training school.

Can you also look at the triplets births please and see if the other triplet was given a name. Can only find 2 of the triplets names.

Did they have another child, named David Frederick Lawrence Byrne/Barry as I have found in the 1937, 1942 to 1968 Electroll Rolls.

Cheers,
Mirk
