Starting Sept. 30, 2014, Genealogy.com will be making a big change. GenForum message boards, Family Tree Maker homepages, and the most popular articles will be preserved in a read-only format, while several other features will no longer be available, including member subscriptions and the Shop.

There is a reader for sale on Gumtree at the moment, and you could always resell it when you are done. Macbeth Genealogical Services who publish a lot of family history resources also say on their website they they often have readers for sale (under 'microform supplies').

If you do have a family history society close by it might also be worth asking if they would rent one to you on the days that they are closed.
