Info about Sam Griffim Wood's Point around 1900

I am trying to gather info on Sam Griffin and his descendants. Sam frequented the McVeigh pub in Wood's Point Victoria around the turn of the century. He was a gold miner. He was sketched by an artist and his image was used by Carlton & United Breweries. This image has an uncanny resemblance to images of my Grandfather's family. James Moore(my GGGgrandfather) was a gold miner, who frequented the Wood's Point pub around the turn of the century. He was last seen at the pub after visiting his daughter at Walhalla and was treated for a serious eye injury. James was never heard of again. Throughout our family this image of Sam has been thought to be that of James Moore.
Any help in solving this riddle would be appreciated.
