Hi Margaret ,

Confirming Berrima as place of residence allows you to find what you are after. From NSW BDM , free before seeking a certificate or the cheaper Transcription Agent :

All Berrima , births to John & Elizabeth

1872 John
1874 Amelia
1876 Jane (died 1876)
1878 James
1881 Jane Elizabeth

Amelia married Robert Russell , 1894 Joadja Creek , and they had son Alexander 1894 Joadja Creek.

Looking for the deaths of John and Elizabeth in NSW 1871 to 1950 , there are only one of each in the Southern Highlands :

1917 John Donaldson reg Bowral , father John mother Jane

1902 Elizabeth Donaldson reg Bowral , father Malcolm , mother Amelia.

Searched Trove for these two deaths to try and confirm and found for John :

the Scrutineer and Berrima District Press , 26/9/1917 , Obituary "The Death occurred at Mittagong on Sunday last at the residence of his daughter Mrs H Hill ...........Mr John Donaldson at the ripe age of 78 years........was born in Alva Scotland and came out to NSW when 19 years of age....worked as a baker in Paddington ...then came to Mittagong in 1865 .........spent 13 years at Joadja until it closed down some 17 years ago........surviving relatives are a daughter and son , Mrs H Hill of Mittagong and Mr James Donaldson of Cootamundra..

This is your John , well 99% sure , so found him arriving on the "Golconda" 1858 , age 19 , native of Clackmannanshire , a labourer - Alva is in Clackmannanshire , and maybe he learnt his baking skills in Paddington , Sydney.

Mittagong, Bowral , Berrima , Joadja Creek are all in the same area

Could not find Elizabeth on Trove , but looks like her birth is 1840 somewhere in NSW , to James and Amelia, which doesn't match the DC , which is a common ocurrance , there are two deaths of Amelia McArthur 1850-1900 , both in Berrima :

1864 Father Malcolm mother Amelia
1875 Father John mother Elizabeth...........??????

Hope this helps
