North Carolina Richard/Thomas Auten 1790 Census

In the North Carolina census, there are 2 Autens who remain unidentified. In 1790 Thomas Auten is in Iredell, Salisbury District, while Richard Auten is in Rowan, Salisbury District. By 1800 Thomas has moved to Buncombe, Morgan District, while Richard remains in Rowan County. In 1810 only Thomas remains in Buncombe County. Does anyone have any information on these 2 Auten's? I was wondering if anyone has access to wills, deeds or old death records in that area, or can do a look up? We have a whole branch of Auten's who descend from Josiah Auten in that same area, & we are trying to figure out how these other 2 early census Auten's fit in and if they are related somehow to Josiah. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Karen Aten Hillman
