Matilda Aten

Hello, am new to the Auten forum but I couldn't find an answer to my question, hope someone can help.

I found an 1819 marriage record for a Matilda Aten to a John McCulley in St. Clair County Illinois. This is the next year after Illinois became a state.

My ancestor's census records are consistant that his mother was born in Illinois (could be consistently wrong however)and his father in Ireland. This would mean that she was born in Illinois maybe tenty years before it was a state.

Would anyone have any thoughts or ideas on this? Any help would be appreciated.
