I believe that Talmadge must have been her middle name.On all censuses after 1870, she is named Talmadge (or some variation thereof).Also, "Yancey" and "Vance" are probably interpretations of the same name, in messy old-style handwriting.On the 1870 census, "Vance" is quite legible, and matches with the marriage record (of which I've only seen the typed abstract).
Interestingly, if they had a daughter named "Mary Willie", she may have been named after either of their parents.John Henry's parents seem to have been named Mary and William, and so might Talmadge's.
