John Hendrick (Henry) Avers (born Bakelde, Nordhorn, Germany, 1830) landed at the Port of Baltimore in 1854. Accompanied by his wife, Geertjen Rotgers (born in Denekamp, Holland, 1825), and infant son, John W. Avers (born Nordhorn, 1854).

They settled in WV, and had another son, Jacob Avers (born 1858, Preston County, VA/now WV).

Family name in Germany was Averes -- changed to Avers in record of passengers of the ship sailing to America.

Son John Avers lived adult life in Cumberland, MD. Son Jacob Avers lived adult life in Keyser, WV.
