Rich,
If I understand your posting correctly, then the Elizabeth S. Langhorne (Nee Avery) that married Maurice Langhorne was William H. Avery SR.s granddaughter. I found a source with this information:
"1852, 2 Feb: In the Court of the Corporation of Lynchburg, VA, Maurice LANGHORNE, Jr. with Maurice LANGHORNE, Sr. as his security, entered into a bond to obtain certificate for administration of the estate of William H. AVERY, decd. Certified, Junius DIDLAKE, Clerk. Copy teste, J. C. DIDLAKE, 9 Sept., 1859."
I'm assuming that the William H. Avery estate they were interested in was William H. Avery JR., Elizabeth's father?
Elizabeth is my g-g-great grandmother through her marriage to Samuel Jordan Cabell. She has been hard to track down for me because she married a "Hartwell Harwell" before Cabell, and then married Langhorne in 1847 when Samuel Jordan died.
Please contact me. Many thanks!
