Hi Marlene,

I think there is little doubt that the Aviolets are of French Huguenot origin, although I have yet no documentary proof of this. My father William always referred to this connection, so the family definitely believed it to be true. I see now reason why a family would claim descendency from the French if it were not so. My father also said that the name was originally D'Aviolet with the particle, which would indicate the family had some pretensions to nobility. However, I have doubts about the particle. Few emigrating Huguenots were of even the "petite noblesse", most being in the trades. Our Aviolets were apparently weavers, or so family tradition goes, which also puts the particle in doubt.
