Dee,
No, I have heard anything. I don't know if we will ever find what we are looking for. Benj. McD (b. abt 1746)married a "Margaret" and we have yet discovered Margaret "who ?". When all is exhausted, I usually try to think outside the box. I've always found that family names run in groups. And the Scottish method of naming was true to form in our family until the third generation here in America. When the number of children exceeded the number of parents and grandparents, they went to sibling names. This can be very confusing, but at least it keeps family names together. When I first looked my Benj. McD in Scotland, I noticed that all the Angus' were found in one section; James' were found in a different section and so on. At the time it struck me as unusual.
The family bible that you referred to . . . was it a McDonald bible? There is one that comes down though Gabriel McDonald (Benjamin's 2nd wife Massay) and was last in the possession of a William McDonald (I think) who was living in CA. I have photo copies of the pages that have my ancestors' names.
I would be delighted to help out if I can.I have been going back over my Mother's work and an Aunt's work and sourceing it. My Aunt's work was sourced according to her son-in-law, but when I asked for the sources, he didn't respond. My guess is that they got the information but didn't get the documentation for prove their finds . . . not much help.
