The Ayala -Jewish Connection

My mother Manuela Catalina Ayala is from Culiacan, Mexico. She is 1 of 7 (Cresencia, Carlos, Jesus, Salvador, Santana, Augustin - Ayala) She told me of my grandafather's (Carlos Ayala died-1992) family roots in Spain. She also informed me they were indeed Jewish. The story is his grandparents re-settled in Sinaloa when they left Spain due to the civil unrest and anti-semetic feelings towards Spanish Jews at the time. The came from Avila(?) Spain to Mexico...of course via inter-faith marriages the family fearing backlash lived as Catholics but stil practicedd traditional Jewish rituals i.e. Friday night Shabat dinners, not working on the Sabbath (Saturday). I myself am Jewish and wondering if anyone else with our family name is as well! Please e-mail.

Patricia-Los Angeles, California USA
