There was an academic from U.C. Berkeley, also an Ayala, who stated that all the royal families of Europe are decended from the individual you cite who is the founder of the Ayala family. This is, of course, dependent on whether or not an individual is an Ayala by blood or just assumed the name (not unusual). My grandfather's grandfather, Antonio Ayala y Solano, was a Spanish Soldier in the Philippines in the 1800's. Fortunately we still have some personal documents of his so we know he's from Granada and was "enobled" so to speak by Queen Isabella for services to the crown. Spain was very into genealogy so we have a good shot at tracing his background a few generations. Good luck to all of you!!
