My great grandmother in the Philippines was Concepcion Ayala, daughter of Antonio Ayala y Solano who is supposed to have come from Granada. He was a Capitan in el ejercito and belonged to the Royal Order of San Hermengildo by the grace of Her Majesty Queen Isabella. We always looked upon the "rich" Ayalas as upstarts since we were the "verdedero" Ayalas and they just used the name. They are actually Zobel y Roxas.
