My father, Alex F. "Sandy" Ayala was born 1921 in Santa Barbara, & passed away in 1998. Searching for information on his parents, Juan Pablo Ayala (1864-abt. 1933) & Nellie Feliz/McAllister (1883-1946). In short, what I do know about Juan Pablo is:
Juan Pablo's decendency from Jose Calixto Ayala, as well as Jose Anthony Secudino Olivera. Also aware of the fascinating HMS Bounty connection. Juan Pablo seems to have been married at least 3 times: (1) in 1896 to Constancia Lopez. Children? Paul? (2) in 1905 to Rebecca Romero. I'm aware of her tragic story & the 2 Cota children, (Alfonso & Julia), from her previous marraige, as well as the 2 boys, (Emilio & John), they had together. For anyone interested, I might have info on these children. (3) in 1918 to Nellie Feliz/McAllister, possibly Nellie Caravantes at the time. Children: Ralph Anthony b. 1919, Alexander "Sandy" Frederick b. 1921, & Francis Jean b. abt 1928. I know a little of Ralph, & even less of Francis, possibly known as Jean.
Nellie Feliz/McAllister 1883-1946: Mother's maiden name Montez, father's name McAllister. According to my father, Nellie talked of growing up in the Hemet area. Though I find a McAllister in that area, I can't substantiate their connection. Nellie had a daughter, Joyce (b. abt 1909), from a previous marriage. Caravantes?
My father's extended family was quite large & considering his own father's age of 57 at the time Dad was born, he might have recalled aunts & uncles who may have been older cousins instead. He spoke of Nellie's sister, Victoria, who taught piano in Los Angeles & of the girls performing opera. Victoria may, indeed, have been Nellie's sister, but there was a 1st cousin, Victoria Juarez, on his father's side, who is attributed with a love of opera.
Alex "Sandy" married Connie, (last name unknown), in Carlesbad, NM or Boston, MA, & had a son, Rolph Dennis Ayala. Separate from that marriage, he had a lovely daughter, Sandi, who he hadn't seen since birth & was able to reunite with before his death. He married Katharine Hirsch; 5 children with her. If anyone has info that will help put all this together, particularly Nellie's background, please contact me. Thanks.
