Dick Baars has wonderful Baars records, but he was not able to find the ones I was looking for.
I knew my husband's ancestor, Chris Baars, came to Chicago from Germany in about 1857. I was never able to find him there or in Kankakee County, Illinois, where the family lived later. Then I learned that the Evangelical Lutheran Churches listed specific birthplaces for marrying couples, and I found his birthplace by searching those records. His home town was Kraase, A tiny place in Mecklenberg, and here are the Baars church records for his family, brothers and sisters:
