It all goes back to the 'Babington' plot which a poor wretched Anthony Babington became caught up in a plot to put Mary Queen of Scots on to the English throne in place of Elizabeth 1. As a result, many of the family added the extra 'B' to the name to distance themselves from the plot. I am one of the 'new' team residing in Bedfordshire, England, but you will find a swathe of us all down your E coast. Ann(e) Babbington came over on the secoond Mayflower, but I have not found an accurate note of the first male over. So, please feel free to continue with the illustious 'double B', if you too wish to be more aligned with the English heritage!!

Hope that helps.
