babbington or babington?

I am getting quite confused over the many different ways in which my name is spelt .Is the an inherent difference in the various spellings or should I consider any of the many alternatives? e.g. bebbington, bibbington,bobinton.etc.
I am seeking information on my g.g.grandparents William and Ellen Babington (or Babbington)who were married in Preston in 1848.
