A biography/family history of Paul Babcock, Plentywood, MT, is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 3, pages 801 and 802. Paul's grandfather, George Babcock, who was of English extraction, spent his final years in Wisconsin, and is buried at Waterloo, WI. He had two sons: Seth and the younger brother William, who was a Union soldier killed during the Civil War. Paul was born, 9 Dec 1876, son of Seth C. and Sarah C. (Cole) Babcock. Seth was born in the State of New York, 24 Feb 1840, moved with his family to Wisconsin and later migrated to Owatonna, MN, for two years, then moved to Spring Valley, MN. Sarah Cole Babcock was born in the State of New York. She died in June 1900. Children of Seth and Sarah Babcock: Howard (lawyer, Sisseton, SD); George (Methodist minister, Windom, MN); Paul (Plentywood, MT); Julia (Mrs. Daniel Hall, Albert Lea, MN). Paul spent his boyhood in Spring Valley, MN, and at age 20 received a business college training. He was admitted to the bar in 1900 and tried his first case at Sisseton, SD. He continued his law practice in South Dakota until moving to Culbertson, MT, in 1907. In 1913, he became a resident of Plentywood, MT. On 11 Mar 1913, he was elected the first county attorney of Sheridan County, and was re-elected in 1914. In 1916, Paul retired from the office of county attorney and continued his private practice. On 28 Apr 1915, Froid, MT, Paul married Miss Naomi Kendall, born in Glenford, OH, but came with her parents to North Dakota and completed her education at White Earth. She trained as a nurse at Valley City, ND, and continued nursing until her marriage. Sisters of Naomi Kendall Babcock: Mrs. William Meredith (Scobey, MT); Mrs. Gus Groate (Battleville, ND).
