It's got to be a long shot to be looking for Balmers on the Baber, site! Perhaps I can help, I am one of the very few Balmers related to the Baber family. Balmers come from one of three places. My lot come from Cheshire in 1750, moving to London in 1800. They probably were in Cheshire as early as 1564, and perhaps much earlier. However they may have come from south east Scotland, which has several "Balmer" place names. Or from the Black Forest, Switzerland area which has the largest number of Balmers to this day. In English records the earliest Balmers in London that I can find, come from around 1620, and have Christian names that suggest Belgium or German descent. The vast majority of Balmers in 18-20th Century England lived in Newcastle on the North east coast, or in the Liverpool, Warrington region on the west coast. These areas are all "sea" related, a would be easily reached by shipping from the Rhine or Low Countries. There is a Record of a London Balmer in the 1200's which is quoted in some surname books, but I can't read the original document as the script is so awlful to read! Please feel free to contact me. Happy hunting!
