Am searching for information regarding the Bachmaier / Bockmire / Bachmayer / Bauchmire / Bachmair family from the Oberpfalz region of Bavaria.
Informationen auf den Deutsch unten gelegen von der Seite. (Information in German located at bottom of page.)
My branch of Bachmaier family came from the village/manor of Wolfsfeld, now part of Kastl, near Amberg in the Oberpfalz region of Bavaria. They owned land there but these lands were confiscated and they were forced to move in 1847 (not sure if this had any relation to events of 1848). They emigrated via Amberg, taking the Ship Schiller from Bremen to Baltimore, MD. Ships log lists family as Bachmeyer. Later moved to Frenchville, PA -- 1850 census lists family as Backman. In 1856 moved to Olean/Allegany, NY, head of family, Joseph, changed name to Bockmier to prevent mispronunciation. Came over with sisters, Barbara & John Ebauer (Abower) and Mary Margaret & Michael Neukam (Newcom), and brother George Bachmaier (Backman/Bockmire).
Family documents also include listing of family as Bachmaier von Wolfefete. Have been told this may be the original Bohemian dialect name for Wolfsfeld.
Joseph, born about 1815, in Wolfsfeld; married to Anna Kathrena (Katherine) Gutenberg, born 1824 in Kastl. Had children Margareut (b. 1844) and Conrad (b.1846) in Bavaria. Children John, Ferdinand, Mary, Joseph, Carolina, and Rosanna born in Frenchville, PA. Children Paul and Henry born in Allegany, NY.
Any information would be helpful. Have written church and residents of village with no response. Also have written archives in Regensburg.
Thank you very much.
