I went back to some old messages and I was wrong that Alma Barclay had contacted Ruby Pruitt. I believe Ruby did have contact with someone getting information, who told her that Lawrence also was an artist, but I was the one to receive the letter from Alma Barclay in 2001. The contents as follows: "Dear Ms. Beaudry: An article in the October issue of OUR STATE magazine entitled “Good Grief” perked up the interests of several family members who are researching our roots. One lineage on which we have very little information is the Badger family. We noted that your great grandfather was Charles Wesley Badger (think she meant John Wesley) of Petersburg, Virginia. Immediately, we began to wonder if he could have any relationship to our great grandfather, Joseph Lawrence Badger, of Petersburg, Virginia! It has been determined that our Badger ancestor (Lawrence) was born ca.1828 in Dinwiddie County, VA; his father was probably named Joseph; he probably had one sister and several brothers; he published a weekly newspaper in Charlotte, NC named “the Hornet’s Nest” from July 1849 through August 1851; in October 1851 he married Ann McMillan of Teachey, NC who died in September 1852; he married a second time in November 1853 to Catherine Ann Wells (our great grandmother); and their only child, Mary Catherine (“Kate”) married Patrick Usher (our grandfather) in 1873. We would appreciate any information you or anyone in your family might have that would enlighten us in our search for our Badger ancestry. Likewise we would be happy to share what information we have with you. Sincerely yours, Alma Barclay" Unfortunately the letter was sent to Badger's Funeral Home (the article was about the funeral home) in West Jefferson, NC and when they got it to me months later, it did not have the envelope or her return address so I was unable to contact her. Alma, are you out there? Notify Administrator about this message?
