Hi, my name is Jo Bagrie and I live in New Zealand. As you probably know Baigrie's are related to Bagrie's so I thought I'd say kia ora ('hi' in Maori).I don't know if you know about the Bagrie's that left Scotland (from Huntly near Aberdeen) in the 19th century for Australasia but here's a bit of background (don't quote me on anything though, this is just bits and pieces that I've picked up from the family over the years).
Two brothers came to NZ around the 1860s and all Bagrie's in NZ are related to those two brothers (there's well over 160 of us here in NZ, more than anywhere else in the world apparently).Farming is in the blood of course, however my generation have branched out a bit and I now run my own ecotourism business (www.geosavvy.com).
I was told by a distant relation in Canada that the name originated from the surname Bagra which they had traced back to France circa 1596.Feel free to contact me if you would like a yarn!
