Hello Larry,
I can't participate in your DNA project as I'm female and
possibly descend from a female Bailey.
You probably have the following info but I'll send it anyway:
Rowan Co, NC Court Minutes - 09/1754 - 01-1757
Re:Rates for ferrys in Chatham Co NC and Tryon Co
NC could not be determined.
The First 3 ferrykeepers in Rowan Co, NC were:
BENJAMIN ROUNSAVILLE,
JEREMIAH BAILEY,
ARCHIBALD CRAIGE
These 3 applied for renewal of their Ordinary License when seeking renewal of their ferry licenses but the records do not show that the Ordinary licenses were renewed.
(Wasn't Rowan Co formed from Granville Co NC?)
In your posting of 02/17/2006 you refer to JEREMIAH C. BAILEY, son of Jeremiah Bailey, SR.Do you know what the initial C. is for?Could it be Clark??The Clarks of Hanover Co and Louisa/Amelia Co area of VA were in Granville Co, NC about 1761.I'll go into that long, entangled story later if you think it's related.
My paternal GG/Grandfather named a son Jeremiah Elijah Milsap Cockburn. That J.E.M. Cockburn named his FIRST son Bailey and 2nd son Boon. The Boons and Baileys lived in Granville and Surry Co, NC during this time frame.(1750-1760 on) (Not the famous Daniel Boon line).
I am searching for the name of the mother of that J.E.M.Cockburn and his brother, Clark Terrell Cockburn, who was my G/grandfather.There is obviously a Bailey & Boon connection.
Thanks, Larry, for any enlightenment you can share.
Peggy
