Starting Sept. 30, 2014, Genealogy.com will be making a big change. GenForum message boards, Family Tree Maker homepages, and the most popular articles will be preserved in a read-only format, while several other features will no longer be available, including member subscriptions and the Shop.

Rufus Dixon Bailiff was indeed the son of Thomas Abner Bailiff and Christena Stockner Bailiff. He went by the name of "Dick" throughout his life; thus, some census takers erroneously listed him as "Richard" rather than "Rufus." He signed his name "R.D. Bailiff," and was known as "Dick." It is easy to see how one might assume the "R" stood for Richard, but his nickname derived from his middle name. This information comes directly from his son Joe, who is still living.
