As my Baldies run out at the end of the 18th century with the marriage of Isabel B. to Robert Duff, it's hard to say until you've got a bit further back. It does seem possible that the we are related as Ceres and Falkland are close together. I suggest that you get his parents wedding certificate, which will give their parents... You can do this (and get birth and wedding certs as well) back to 1855. See Genuki if you need the addresses, etc.
As neither paretn's name is very common, you could also try the 1901 census on Scots Origins. Let me know when you get back another 100 years!
