Baldy Family Genealogy Forum
Let me elaborate on and correct something in my previous post. A friend/fellow researcher in SLC looked up on microfilm the wills I mentioned, Herkimer Co. Wills Vol. B, page 500: William Balde, will written 10 Sep 1810, and proved 6 Oct. 1817. He mentions his wife Catherine, his only son William, his oldest daughter Catherine, second daughter Eve, and third daughter Elizabeth, and fourth daughter Mary. One of the requests he made was that his children be sent to school. Henry Balde and William Brightenbecker were executors. Obviously this is not the William who married Lavina Helmer. This researcher wonders if the son William becomes the husband of Lavina. That is only speculation at this point.
Herkimer County Wills, Vol.W, page 7: Lavina Baldy's will is most informative. Will written 11 Feb 1884 and proved 11 Nov 1884. Mentions her son George W., son John F., daughter Nancy Spohn, daughter Ellen M. Browning, daughter Catherine Stuper, granddaughter Elizabeth Spohn (Catherine Baldy Spohn, wife of Jeremiah, was deceased by this time), three sons of "my daughter Louisa Ostrander deceased": Charles, William, and Clark, and son Horatio. Executor was George E.Tassage/Tassaye and witness was C. T. Miller. This of course gives us the two married surnames for Ellen and Louisa. It is also interesting to note the spelling variation for Baldy/Balde within a period of seventy years.
Cemetery records show also the Baldee spelling.
