My BALE / BAIL ancestors moved from Monmouthshire to the Black Country region of England in the 1800s. The spelling of their surname varies a lot - for some reason, some of the BALE descendants changed the spelling of their name to BEALE. I have found the surname spelled in all of the following ways:
John BALE was born in around 1831 in Abersychan, Monmouthshire. He married Mary Ann MARTIN on 19th February 1849 at the Tabernacle in Trevethin, Monmouthshire.
Their first son was born in Monmouthshire, then they moved to the Black Country (South Staffordshire / North Worcestershire). Their children were:
John - born c1851 in Monmouthshire
Thomas - born c1854 in Rowley Regis, Staffordshire, He married Eliza MILLS in Dudley in 1874.
Henry - born c1856 in Rowley Regis, Staffordshire
Frances Jenny (Fanny Jane) - born 1st April 1857 at Moore Lane, Rowley Regis. She moved to Manchester and married Thomas G GRUNDY in 1886 at the Hyde Road Schools Methodist Free Church in Manchester.
Antony - born c1859 in Dudley, Worcestershire. He married Ann SMITH in Dudley in 1880.
Edward - born c1865 in Netherton, Dudley, Worcestershire. He married Annie COOPER in 1891 in Dudley.
I have details of the children of all of the above. Please do get in touch if you have any BALE/BEAL etc families from the Black Country as I'm trying to do a little one-name study for the area, and am particularly interested in the eldest son, John, who had a whole bunch of children apparently out of wedlock (including my great grandfather) before marrying a much younger woman! Thomas and Antony both moved to Kirkby in Ashfield in Nottinghamshire whilst the others stayed in the Black Country (Stourbridge, Dudley, Netherton and surrounding area).
