Mary,

Abigail was the eldest child of James Bale and Sarah Havens. She married Moses Roof and journied to Ohio with James and the rest of his family in 1849. She is listed in the 1850 US Census in the household of James Bale (age 54) as Abigail Roof. Also listed are Moses Roof (age 5), Sarah Roof (age 4), an Morn's (sic) (age 10 months).

I am in the process of transcribing a series of 18 articles which James' son John Havens Bale wrote in 1909 for the Delaware (Ohio) Semi-Weekly Gazette which describes the family history to Henry Bale's arrival in Philadelphia in 1752, Henry Jr. and Peter Bales enterprize in Baleville, and the journey to Ohio of James to Ohio with his children in 1849. Sarah Havens was deceased in 1845. James sold his interest in the Baleville mills in 1846, visited his sister Susan Bale Havens (married to Andrew Havens) in Ohio in 1848, bought a farm and moved the family in 1849. John's series of articles is very interesting for family members. I hope to have the project completed in the Fall of this year and will make it available to those interested.
