Any connections?This ancester, Alice BALFE, has just been found.I know nothing else about her except what is below.
William MURRAY, b. @1777 “near Moate” Westmeath – d. 1859, Benton Co.
Iowa.Mar. Alice BALFE1802.Aliceb. @1780-85;d. 1866 in Benton
Co.William MURRAY was a steward for John LONGWORTH of Glin, a large
landowner in Ireland.They had 7 sons and 4 daughters all b. Westmeath,
8 of which I have identified –
(1) Elizabeth (1804-1877 Kansas City, MO).Married Patrick CORRIGAN
(1802 Offaly – 1874 K.C.)They had 12 children, all b. 1830-1846 in
Sherrington, Hemmingford or St. Jean Chrysostome, Qc, south of
Montreal.The CORRIGANs all eventually left Quebec in the 1860’s and
1870’s and settled primarily in Kansas City with some in Iowa.
(2) Bernard (b. bef. 1808, lvg in 1836, unk. after).
(3) Mary Ann (1810-1886 Saginaw MI).Came to Rochester NY with parents
@1825.Mar. Timothy TARSNEY @1830.Moved to Toledo, OH and then
Michigan.8 children incl. 2 US Congressmen: John C. Tarsney of KC, MO
and Timothy E. TARSNEY of Saginaw.4 sons fought in the Civil War.
(4) William C. (24 Aug 1811-21 Apr 1907). Mar. Nancy McADAMS 1844
Rochester, NY.Lived in NY and Boston, MA until 1860 when moved to
Benton Co, IA and to Cedar Rapids in 1892.
(5) Michael (1818-1898). Came to NY and then to Cedar Rapids in 1875.
(6) John B. (1824-6 Sep 1901) Moved from Benton Co. IA to Plymouth Co.
IA in 1887.
(7) Catherine (@1828-24 Apr 1906).Married John SAUNDERS/SANDERS of
Iowa City, IA in 1856, where she died.
(8) Thomas(7 Apr 1808 nr Moate – 12 Mar 1886 Cedar Rapids).Married
Ann KEATING (1819 Athlone, Roscommon – 17 Nov 1892 Cedar Rapids) 10 Jan
1836 St. Peter’s RC, Athlone.
In 1829, Thomas moved with older brother, Bernard to Athlone to
work for the Robbison Distilling Company.They roomed with Ann’s
parents, Nicholas KEATING (1750-1845) and Elizabeth CURLEY.
Thomas, Ann and his bro., William, came to Montreal 1836 where he
worked with the MALSOM BREWING CO. and EDW. PRENTISS CO.The
brothers then fought to put down the French rebellion.In 1843,
Thomas went to farm near Newburgh, NY.In 1845, the family
returned to Ireland but came back after 9 months because of
conditions there.They went to farm in the St. Jean Chrysostome
area near his sister Elizabeth CORRIGAN’s family.The family
migrated to Iowa in 1855, first settling in Norway, Benton Co.
Iowa.The parents (William and Alice) and sister Catherine (m.
John SAUNDERS/SANDERS) joined them.Thomas and Ann died in Cedar
Rapids, Linn Co. IA.Their children were: William, Michael, John
E. (all supposedly b. Montreal); Elizabeth (NY); Mary A., Thos. F.,
Margaret, Charles P. (all b. Sherrington/Hemmingford,Qc area);
Jennie and Anna F. (both b. Norway, IA).
