Cawood Ball, 92, of Bean Station, TN (formerly of Greeneville, TN), died Wednesday, July 4, 2012, at Lakeway Regional Hospital, Morristown, TN, from pneumonia. He was born on November 23, 1919, in Harlan Co, KY. He retired from The Magnavox Company after 33 years of service as a truck driver based in Fort Wayne, IN, and later Greeneville, TN, in 1965. Following retirement, he and his wife moved to a peaceful setting on Cherokee Lake. He was an avid fisherman and an original member of the Greeneville Bass Club. He also enjoyed golf in his later years. He attended First Baptist Church in Bean Station as long as his health permitted. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Willie Ball, in 2003; sister, and son-in-law, Fred Hoffman. He is survived by three daughters, one son, and their spouses, Mrs. Lloyd (Vashti) Thompson, of Bean Station, TN, Susan Hoffman, of Monroeville, IN, and twins, Mrs. Ken (Debra) Oldenberg and Mr. David (Kaye) Ball, of Greeneville, TN; brother, Mr. Lee (Carolyn) Ball, of Tucson, AZ; niece, Mrs. Arthur (Virginia) Hensley, of Morristown, TN; eleven grandchildren, locally including Mrs. Garth (Amy Oldenberg) Barham (Knoxville,TN), Chris Oldenberg (Greeneville, TN), Michael Ball (Knoxville, TN), Matthew (Jada) Ball (ARK), and Mrs. John (Melissa) Walker (Greeneville, TN); sixteen great-grandchildren; one great- great grandchild; several nieces and nephews; and brother- in-law and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Chester (Carol) Shedd, of Fort Wayne, IN. The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 7, 2012, from noon to 2 p.m., at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow in the chapel with private interment at Greene Lawn Memory Gardens. Mr. Ball’s nephew, Pastor Tim Teague, of Columbus, OH, will officiate. Pall bearers will be grandsons. Honorary pall bearers will be former drivers of The Magnavox Company. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Greeneville/Greene County Humane Society, 950 Hal Henard Road, Greeneville, TN 37743.
