Hi Rodney,
Your message ia exciting to me!I, too, have been told that our original Ballance who came over from England was William.I'll have to dig out my research on him.My cousin found the name of the ship he arrived on.We, and there are quite a few of us NOW, have all found each other in the last 3 years thanks to the internet and the message boards. We don't necessarily descend from the same family but are all related as cousins from the root family of Joshua Ballance. We live in GA, TX, LA, MO, CA and MS.
I've traced my Ballances to Joshua (b. 1772 d. bef. 1832 MS).I've even found his father, Benjamin (b. 1748 ?) who was married to a Sarah Davis (b. abt. 1750 Pasquotank NC d. 1826 Williamson TN) d/o David Davis, Sr. (b. 1695
Pasquotank NC d. 1778 Pasquotank NC.Benjamin's father supposedly is named Joshua. There is not much of a gap in time to fill in but I've fallen short of connecting the dots back to William.Family names that have been used and reused over and over are Hanan, Benjamin Franklin, James, Leanora, Caroline, and Eveline.
My cousin Phyllis and I know that we are related to the North Carolina Ballances but just cannot find the connection.
Please correct any mistakes I make about William.I've been told that William first began in VA, around or below Norfolk. As the boundaries changed several times on the southern VA line and northern NC line, when the government was finally satisfied and left it alone, William was in NC.Is that what you've learned?
I have lots of information to exchange with you on the Joshua Ballance line.He married Delilah Roberts in Davidson TN in 1797, had several children there then moved to Natchez MS between 1812 and 1816 and continued adding to his family. In the 1820 Natchez MS Census his was a family of 10.
I've been able to trace 4 of his children.Had lots of help along the way as I met new cousins on the Message Boards. They've added their particular family information to mine.I have several notebooks full of Ballances.lolPictures, death certificates, marriage records, CSA pension applications, deed records. My cousin and I even went to MS a couple of years ago and found the plantation house of James R(obert) Ballance, s/o Joshua, built in 1837.It is still standing and in good shape. We transcribed the old family graveyard and have pictures of the tombstones and of the house.
However you want to correspond is fine with me.My direct email is [email protected] or [email protected].
Can't wait to hear back from you.
Suzanne
